Notice of Public Hearing – Planning and Zoning Commission Minnesota Trout Unlimited Root River Project

The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 6:15 p.m. at Lanesboro City Hall, 202 Parkway Avenue South, Lanesboro, MN. The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comment on an upcoming project in partnership with Minnesota Trout Unlimited.

Project Description: The project area encompasses approximately 3,000 feet along the South Branch of the Root River. The north end of the project area is located about 1.3 miles southwest of the junction of the Root River with the South Branch of the Root River. A field survey was conducted on both sides of the river for proposed stream modifications, which include:

  • Selective tree harvest and invasive shrub removal
  • Streambank grading for floodplain connectivity
  • Installation of boulder toe to protect floodplain benches
  • Enhancement of riparian vegetation
  • Angler access improvements at several locations
  • Planting of native trees and shrubs

Interested persons may provide comments at the public hearing.
