Lanesboro, Minn.–The Lanesboro Park Board and Lanesboro City Council have authorized the removal of invasives on the hillsides surrounding Sylvan Park. This will reduce the fire hazard of the dead wood and re-establish prairie hillsides to improve wildlife habitat including prairie pollinators. The most cost-effective way to accomplish this has been to cut, pile and burn the invasives on-site which was done under the supervision of Park Management and Public Works staff.
Goats brought in from a local business, the Driftless Goat Company, will browse off all re-emerging invasives. Next fall more of the hillside will be restored, so if you are interested in volunteering to help with this project, please contact the Lanesboro City Office.
Please Note: The perimeter trail above Sylvan Park will be closed while the goats are grazing.
