The City of Lanesboro last updated its Comprehensive Plan
in 2019. While that was only 5 years ago, much has changed in that time and the city has decided
to update its plan for the future. A critical component of the 2025 Comprehensive Plan
will be a detailed Implementation Plan that identifies and prioritizes key goals along with strategies
action steps to achieve those goals.
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan defines the vision and priorities for a community. It does this by setting
goals and policies that guide growth, land use decisions, and future investments. The
comprehensive plan considers natural resources, current land uses, population trends,
economic development activity and assess the needs of residents and businesses. This data is
used to develop a plan that is used by city officials to guide decisions on development,
redevelopment, and infrastructure investments such as roads, parks, trails, sewers, and water.
The final chapter of a comprehensive plan includes an implementation plan that identifies
goals, prioritizes those goals, assigns goals to a specific department or committee, and
identifies potential resources and strategies.
